Location :
Prime Attraction : Hyderabad - Vishakhapatnam - Warangal - Chittoor

Charminar in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh Andhra Pradesh is the fifth largest state in India. It's also a rich state, atleast in terms of natural resources, cultural heritage and most of all, opportunity. Andhra Pradesh commanding a 1000 km golden beach laced coastline, is blessed with a charming countryside.

Prime Attractions
Hyderabad

Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh, is a city which combines both the ancient and the modern. It has the most sophisticated five star hotels, shopping malls, eating places (especially those serving the world famous Hyderabadi biryani, a dish of rice and meat) and entertainment facilities. And it is a maze of markets and tiny houses - a busy, noisy place where narrow ancient lanes meet large vehicle-choked roads. Different in the layout of buildings, the way of life of the people and the very atmosphere, these two cities exist side by side, presenting two very different images.

The buildings of present day Hyderabad are a rich mix of Medieval Indian, Saracenic, Mughal and Colonial architecture, a combination of the Hindu and Islamic influences with a hint of the erstwhile British Raj.

Hyderabad is highly cosmopolitan, a cauldron of a variety of cultures, not only because of its past but also because of the influx of people from all over the country to its institutions, research and educational, and to its various industries, including many high-profile technological firms.

Hyderabad especially draws tourists to its minarets and its pearl bazaar. The gypsy tribes called the 'Lambadas' and 'Banjaras' native to the region are known for their colourful traditions, costumes and handicrafts.

Vishakhapatnam

Vishakhapatnam, formerly known as Vizag, and the surrounding areas on Circar coast, along the eastern coast of present-day Andhra Pradesh belonged to the Dutch, who were among the first Europeans to make their presence felt in India.

A sleepy fishing town with little or no infrastructure till the early 1920s, Vizag was developed by the British and opened to sea-going vessels in 1933. Since then it has been a medium- sized port, catering to the requirements of the Deccan Plateau and the eastern parts of the country. Known as Waltair under British rule, Vizag was also seen to be of strategic importance by the military who set up base here. The military still has bases here.

Warangal

warangal-fortgateWarangal, dating back to the 1100's and mentioned in the travel diaries of Marco Polo, offers an insight into the development of Hindu temple architecture. The magnificent star shaped Shiva temple built in the 13th century, the marvellous thousand pillared temple built by king Rudra Deva in the 12th century, other temples and the ruins of an ancient fort are definitely worth a visit.

Now a cotton market town, Warangal also houses a colourful wool market around the bus stand area in the cooler months. Facilities are adequate for an overnight stop in the town or a long day trip from Hyderabad can suffice.

Chittoor

Chittoor, very close to the revered temple at Tirupati, is also close to two eminent wildlife sanctuaries and the famous Horsley hills, a famous hill resort named after W.D Horsley.

Situated in the valley of the Poini river, Chittoor is a market for grain, sugarcane, and peanuts; its industries include oilseed and rice milling. The city is surrounded by mango and tamarind groves, and cattle are bred in the area. A district administrative centre, Chittoor was a British military post until 1884.
