Safdarjung's tomb, following the tradition of Humayun's Tomb, is the
last enclosed garden tomb in Delhi. The garden tomb
was built in 1753-54 soon as the mousoleum Safdarjang, the viceroy of
Awadh under the Mughal Emperor, Mohammed Shah. The double storeyed
structure built in red and brown sandstones is among the last examples
of Mughal architecture. It has several smaller pavilions with evocative
names like Jangli Mahal (Palace of Woods), Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace),
and Badshah Pasand (King's Favourite).
