Roaring success of the Palace on Wheels across the globe has inspired
Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation and Indian Railways to take
new initiative which is "The Heritage on Wheels" a meter gauge
luxury tourist train that now is chugging on the tracks of unexplored
Rajasthan, Bikaner and Sekhawati often referred as the "Open Art
Gallery of Rajasthan".
About Heritage on Wheels
This train 14 fully air-conditioned coaches with heritage ambiance,
restaurants and a bar lounge, however, attached toilets facility is not
available in the train. Every coach has two toilets which are shared by
the occupant four cabins.

Day02 - Wednesday OR Saturday: Bikaner

Arrive Bikaner: Established in 1448
by Rao Bika a descendent of Marwar ruler Rao Jodha, Bikaner is
located on the northwest of Rajasthan. Imposing forts, extravagant
palaces, intricately sculptured temples, dazzling sand dunes and
colorful people are how one can identify Bikaner with. |

Depart for a visit to Junagarh Fort.
One of the most imposing forts of Northern India this 15th century
fort has remained unconquered till date except by Kamaran who could
only sustain the position for 24 Hrs. Built by Raja Rai Singh (one
of the most trusted generals in Emperor Akbar's army) multi layer
security was catered for the fort - building has high walls, moats,
37 bastions to keep vigil for round the clock.
Numerous palaces with exquisitely carved windows, balconies, towers
and kiosks built by successive rulers are highlights of the visit.
Chandra Mahal the Moon Palace, Phool Mahal the Flower Palace, Karan
Mahal, Durbar Hall, Gaj Mandir, Sheesh Mahal are more prominent
palaces here. Fort also houses a museum that has an extensive
collection of artifacts. |

Arrive Gajner. A short distance (32
km) from Bikaner lies Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary which has been
hunting preserve for Bikaner Maharaja. Forested hills of this
reserve boasts of wildlife like wild boar, desert fox, black bucks,
blue bulls etc. and a lake in the forest attracts various species
waterfowl. Gajner is an excellent place to sight the Imperial
Sandgrouse.
Lunch will be served at the Gajner Palace an architectural delight
which once served as hunting lodge for this preserve is now turned
into a fascinating heritage hotel. |

Disembark train for game drive to Tal
Chhapar: A flat saline depression Tal Chhapar's unique ecosystem has
been serving as migratory passage for the birds crossing over.
Another hunting preserve of Bikaner Maharaja, it is one of the
finest place to see raptors like montagu's harrier, marsh harrier,
pallid harrier and hen harrier are found in lesser numbers. Besides
these imperial eagle, tawny eagle, short toed eagle, sparrow hawk
are common here.
Sanctuary has a small area and the animals frequently encountered
are the desert fox, Jungle Cat, Black Naped Hare, Neelgai, Jackal,
Chinkara etc. with Black Buck being the main herbivore. |

Arrive Ramgarh and explore some of
the Quaint Havelis of Ramgarh. Founded by the Poddars in the late
18th century, Ramgarh was abandoned due to discontentment with Churu
rulers. However, rustic furniture, frescos painted in havelis of
Ramgarh still tell the tales of the past. Also visit havelis of
Mandawa. |

explore more havelis and rustic locale of Shekhawati region. |

Booking conditions
The reservation/ cancellation of passenger on the Heritage on Wheels
may be done as per the following terms & conditions:

(i) 20% of ticket value at the time of booking
(ii) 80% on ticket value 30 days prior to departure
Cancellation
(i) 5% of ticket value 60 days prior to departure
(ii) 20% of ticket value 30-59 days prior to departure
(iii) 50% of ticket value 15-29 days prior to departure
(iv) 100% of ticket value 14 days prior to departure
