A small but bustling town, in the Himalaya foothills of West Bengal, Kalimpong is at an altitude of 1250 mt. This bazaar-town was originally a part of Bhutan but later it was taken over by the British and finally it became a part of West Bengal. Kalimpong is famous for it's monasteries, churches and a private library for the study of Tibetan and Himalayan languages, culture, etc. This place also has the sericulture centre and the orchid nurseries and provides some beautiful sights of the Himalayan range. The trip from Darjeeling being memorable for it's lovely road through forests and a place called the Viewpoint, offering excellent view of the confluence of the Rangeet and the Teesta rivers, as also of the Himalayan mountain range from Durbindra summit.

Siliguri is the access point to the hills of Darjeeling. It is also the disembarkation point for the Kingdoms of Bhutan and Nepal. The twin cities of Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri are the transit point to Darjeeling, Sikkim and the North-Eastern States.

Being the nodal point, this town has become very busy and crowded. Tourists come to Siliguri and New Jalpaiguri mainly to change bus or catch trains
