The Kumari Amman Temple in Kanyakumari, India

Kanyakumari, the last dot on the Indian map, is famous for it's peaceful and stunning natural environment. This place has been attracting tourists due to it's geographical positioning. It is an important pilgrim centre.

It is located on the confluence of Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. It is famous for it's spectacular sunrises and sunsets, especially on full moon days. The beach itself is a beautiful sight with multicoloured sand. There is a light house from where one can get a panaromic view of the sea.

The Kumari Amman Temple

This temple is dedicated to Parvathi as Devi Kanya -- the virgin Goddess, who did penance to obtain the hand of Lord Siva. The temple is situated on the beach and there are long ques to enter the temple. The bright diamond nose ring of the Goddess is world famous.

In May/June there is a 'car festival' where an idol of the deity is taken in procession and in September/October the Navratri festival celebrates Devi's victory over the Demons.

Udayagiri Fort

Udayagiri fort, built by king Marthanda Varma in 1729-1758 A.D, has a foundry for casting guns. The king's trusted European general De Lennoy's tomb is located within this fort.
