The Mizos, originally hailing from the Shan State of Burma are a
Mongoloid race. Mizoram's dominant tribe, Lushai, along with the Hmar
tribe, migrated to India and occupied the Lushai hills. The Mizo
community has been greatly influenced by Christianity. This was due to
the annexation in 1872 which allowed only foreign missionaries, and
resulted in mass conversions. Mizo language is also widely spoken.
Lushais, Pawis, Paithes, Raltes, Pang, Himars and Kukisare some of the
tribes in Mizoram. Originally, the state was ruled by the Sailos. After independence, the state was made a part of Assam. On 20th February, 1987, it was made a state.
