The capital city of Goa, Panaji is situated along the southern bank of
river Mandovi. In every house, cafe, church, etc one can easily make out
the Portuguese heritage. The streets are lined with gardens and
monuments. There are 2 fresh water springs in the centre of the city. The Church of Our Lady Of Immaculate Conception lies at the foot of the hill and the famous Mahalaxmi Temple is nearby. With Miramar and Dona Paula beaches at 3 & 5 kms respectively, Panaji is a must visit spot for every beach lover. A very famous Carnival centred around a procession of colourful floats takes place in Panaji.






The
Franciscan Church lies to the west of the Cathedral. Completed in 1521,
it is an exquisite piece of work. The church contains gilded and carved
woodwork, old murals and a floor substantially made of carved
gravestones.The adjourning convent has been turned in to an
Archeological Museum and is open to the public.
