The Char Dham Yatra is yet another essential pilgrimage for the Hindus. The yatra is held in high regard by the Hindu community and is undertaken at least once in a lifetime. Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath are collectively known as the Char Dham. The sites are located in the foothills of the Himalayas. Haridwar and Rishikesh in Uttaranchal are the other chief places of pilgrimage. Buddhists sites also abound in the country. Places like Rajgir, Patna, Nalanda and Bodhgaya are the chief sites to explore the world of Buddha, the enlightened one.
