Rishikesh Tours, India

Location :
Prime Attraction : Neelkanth Mahadev Temple - Lakshman Jhula - Swarga Ashram

Rishikesh Tours in India Rishikesh, a sacred town 24 km from Haridwar located in the laps of the lower Himalayas, provides access to three other major pilgrimage sites - Badrinath-Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. It is here that the holy river Ganga leaves the mountains and joins the plains for her long journey. The whole area is considered sacred for the Hindus as it is believed that meditation here leads to attainment of salvation.

There are many temples - some ancient, some new - along the river Ganges. The riverside is dotted by the ashrams of sadhus and sages. Rishikesh is also famous for ashrams which teach Yoga. In the 60s, even the Beatles came to Rishikesh to meet their Guru.

The Ganga, which is known for its strong currents and fierce behaviour upstream, suddenly becomes slow and gracious as it crosses the town.

Rishikesh not only attracts pilgrims but also people who love rafting. Rishikesh is also an ideal base camp for trekking in the nearby Himalayas.

Prime Attractions
Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

Mythology says that in the ancient times when the ocean was being churned for Amrit (potion for immortality), first venom oozed out. Lord Shiva drank the venom at a place which is now called Neelkanth Mahadev. It is 12 km from Rishikesh and is surrounded by peaceful forests.

Lakshman Jhula

This suspended Iron bridge, built in 1939 is said to be on the spot where Lakshman crossed Ganga on jute ropes. One can enjoy the pictursque surroundings and the cool breeze from the river while standing on the bridge and also take a boat ride. The boat ride makes the bridge appear more gorgeous. Close to Lakshman Juhla is the Ram Jhula. This suspended bridge was recently build between Shivanand Ashram and Swarga Ashram. It is similar to the Lakshman Jhula. Ram Juhla is also known as Shivanand Jhula.

Swarga Ashram

Swarga Ashram, in Rishikesh, is one of the oldest ashrams founded by Swami Vishudhanandji. One can find numerous temples here.
