In the harsh terrain of the hills and ravines of Aravalis, flourishes
the city of lakes, Udaipur. One of the most romantic places in India,
Udaipur is situated around the shimmering clear blue water lakes which
whisper the mood of a bygone era. The city was founded in 1567 by Maharana Udai Singh on the advice of a sage. Udaipur was last of the numerous Mewar capitals. It was in Udaipur that legendary Maharana Pratap was born.
The city acquires it's scenic beauty from the Aravalis. Three lakes - Pichola, Fateh Sagar and Udai Sagar makes it an Oasis in the desert. This city full of enchanting tales has a remarkable past, with episodes of heroism and splendor.

Maharana Bhagwat Singh of Udaipur started the restoration and
reconstruction of the Lake Palace in the year 1959. The Maharana
realized that the magnificent Lake Palace, with it's romantic setting
had tremendous potential to attract tourists to Udaipur. While
renovaiting the palace, priority was given to restoring the exquisite
glass inlay panels. The only way to get to the Lake Palace Hotel is via
launch. Crossing the serene waters of Lake Pichola brings you
face-to-face with a 500 year old legend.
This spectacular palace stands white and majestic set on a hill. The
palace is surmounted by balconies, towers and cupolas and there are fine
views over the lake and the city from the upper terraces. It is
surrounded by walls for battlements, at the entrance is a triple arched
gate, called the Tripolia which was built in 1725.
